Farewell Wink

Crochet has been my therapy. Wink was such a creative and talented lady. I will be making a few of her throw blanket patterns and Mandalas in her honor. I will be selling the mandalas on my facebook and donating the money to the American Foundation for Suicide prevention. I hope you are free now Wink. RIP.

It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to Marinke aka Wink. If you don’t know her, you may know her website as A Creative Being. http://www.acreativebeing.com/

Wink took her own life last Friday. She had been fighting off depression with crochet as being her coping mechanism. Tragically, the depression won.

For myself here, crochet is way to deal with life and it is therapy. Though there are some shirts that joke that “Crochet is my therapy!” Let’s face it. It really is and some of us hold on by a thread working ourselves through it. I know this from personal experience myself.

Life is precious and we each have something to offer the world. Depression is a very serious thing and there are times where we don’t see the light. We are in too deep swimming in the dark with not knowing which way is up.

I just want to take a moment and acknowledge the amount of creativity she gave to all of us, unconditionally. She did many free patterns and did complex photographic tutorial articles to encourage us crocheters that we can, too, do it ourselves.

I’m not sure how to end this letter today. It’s tragic and deeply upsetting. It’s so gut wrenching to know she gave so much to others and didn’t feel it strong enough within herself to not give up.
